“I thank my friends who contributed to my defense, for their prayers and sacrifice, & those I don’t know, and Allah knows them.” - Ahmed Abu-Ali
“To believe that this young man is a threat to this country is ludicrous.” -Ahmed’s neighbor [Amnesty International, Washington Post, Democracy Now! has also covered the story]
In 08, Ahmed was denied Obama’s, Dreams from My Father & Audacity of Hope b/c they have info “potentially detrimental to national security”
Ahmed’s case is the first time the government has used secret evidence to detain a US citizen
Since Ahmed has been wrongfully incarcerated, both his brother & father lost their jobs. It’s not easy finding a job as an Abu-Ali.
Ahmed’s cell is the size of 2 queen mattresses pushed together. It has no windows.
Ahmed is allowed limited monthly phone calls with immediate family only. Friends & reporters are out of the question.
The next time you take more than 12 steps, think about Ahmed. In his tiny cell, he cannot walk more than 12 feet at a time.
Imagine everyday in the same room. For 1 year. For 2 years. For 3 years… For 9 years. Let’s make this affliction a nightmare of the past.“During my first year in solitary darkness my mind collapsed into a state of indescribable anguish and hysteria”-Sidney Rittenberg
Ahmed’s family is in the last stages of appeals please help spread the word before it is too late.If you have a soul you will reblog and spread Ahmed’s story. I don’t care if I lose all my followers as long as one more person knows of his story. If you don’t stand up for someone it could be you next.
Petition is in process.
